General Information
The Kathapac SP Series has been developed to deliver the same high performance associated with larger Kathapac equipment. The SP Series is designed to be a more compact, lower cost-to-install configuration, and for applications involving smaller air volumes.
Kathapac SP dehumidifiers are complete, pre-packed units incorporating conditioner, regenerator, matching heat exchangers, piping and wiring - all assembled on a single skid and factory tested before shipment. Design and installation costs are significantly reduced. Less floor space is required.
Each Kathapac SP unit includes a microprocessor controller with built-in diagnostics to improve equipment reliability and facilitate maintenance. Controls are preset to reduce start-up time and cost.
These dehumidifiers reliably deliver precise humidity and temperature at all times, regardless of air inlet conditions, with no need for face and bypass dampers or complex controls. When initial cost, operating cost and maintenance cost are considered, Kathabar liquid desiccant dehumidifiers usually outperform dry desiccant systems. Furthermore, the Kathene liquid desiccant removes and kills up to 94% of all airborne bacteria, viruses and molds. This is a unique benefit for all Kathabar processes and installations.
Designed for a wide variety of industrial, commercial and institutional applications, Kathapac SP units are available in three sizes: the 240 SP for air volumes to 3,000 CFM, the 400 SP for air volumes to 5,000 CFM, and the 600 SP for air volumes to 7,500 CFM.
Wherever a standard, pre-packaged Kathapac SP unit fits an application, it offers superior value at significant cost savings.
Performance Benefits
• The most energy efficient desiccant dehumidifier available - economical to operate.
• Simple temperature control yields reliable humidity control.
• Design simplicity - no precool or after cool coils needed, no need for face and by-pass dampers.
• Kathene desiccant solution removes and kills 94% of all bacteria, viruses and molds.
• Eliminates wet cooling coils - a known breeding site for microorganisms.
• Very long equipment life - corrosion proof materials throughout — no corrosion inhibitors needed.
• Non-toxic, non-vaporizing liquid desiccant is easily accessible, has longer life and lower replacement cost than dry desiccant wheels.
Operating Principle
The Kathapac SP system, like all Kathabar equipment, operates on the principle of chemical absorption of water vapor from the air. The absorbent is a desiccant solution called Kathene. It is a water solution of lithium chloride salt. The solution is not toxic, will not vaporize, and is not degraded by common airborne contaminants.
The ability of Kathene to remove water vapor from air, or add water vapor to air, is determined by the temperature and concentration of the solution. The concentration of the Kathene can be adjusted so that the conditioner delivers air at any desired relative humidity between 20% and 90%.
For a given Kathene concentration, lower solution temperatures enable the Kathapac dehumidifier to deliver cooler, drier air. Higher solution temperatures enable the conditioner to deliver warmer, wetter air. By controlling temperature and concentration of the Kathene, the Kathapac SP system can deliver air at a constant temperature and humidity regardless of inlet air conditions — all day, every day, all year long.
