Kathabar SP – Liquid Desiccant Dehumidification
This animation gives a 360° view of an Alfa Laval Kathabar Small Packaged (SP model) liquid desiccant dehumidification system. This packaged system is characterized by the conditioner and regenerator towers sharing a sump and the cooler, heater, and pumps mounted and piped with the control panel affixed and wired.
Kathabar FV – Vertical Discharge Conditioner
This video gives a 360° view of an Alfa Laval Kathabar liquid desiccant dehumidification model FV Conditioner. This particular conditioner was placed on a skid with an end-suction pump and cooler installed and piped, and the control panel mounted. This size Conditioner also includes a draw-through fan mounted on the top of the tower for process airflow.
How does Alfa Laval Kathabar operate?
The animation shows the flow of process air and Kathene, Alfa Laval Kathabar’s trademarked liquid desiccant, through the vertical conditioner. The humid air enters the Conditioner through the sump and then travels up vertically through the packing media. At the same time the liquid desiccant, Kathene, is being pumped through the spray nozzles overtop of the packing media. The air and Kathene come into direct contact with each other in a counter current flow within the packing, where the Kathene absorbs the moisture from the airstream. The dehumidified air then travels through a two-stage mist eliminator section and out the top of the conditioner and through a process fan, while the diluted Kathene falls to the sump to be reused by the system. This cycle is continuous with the Kathene constantly being controlled to the correct temperature to meet the supply air conditions based on the Kathene concentration.
Servicing and Maintenance for Kathabar FV
This animation uses a model FV1200 Conditioner to show access to typical maintenance items including bypass filters and mist eliminators, along with how to access the spray nozzles and the vertical pump assembly. Proper preventative maintenance is critical to the operation of the Kathabar liquid desiccant system.
